Welcome to Class 1!
Class 1 is an exciting place to learn and play!
Our teacher is Miss McCabe and we are lucky enough to also have Mrs Whitton and Miss Jones, our teaching assistants in Reception, working with us for some of the day.
In Class 1, we are always very busy whether we are being writers, mathematicians, architects, artists, builders or musicians. Lots of our learning takes place through play, but we also enjoy our regular Phonics, Literacy and Maths sessions.
This half-term our topic is We Are Explorers. We are learning all about Space, exploring countries of the World and being minibeast explorers. The children were also keen to learn about pirates so we will be spending some time on this theme too this term. As always though, if the children are excited by other topics and themes activities are planned around children’s interests.

What’s been going on in Class 1?
We had a fantastic time on our Forest Schools day. We made goblins on trees using clay and had great fun den building. In the afternoon, we learnt how to light a fire and enjoyed toasting marshmallows.
This week we started our topic with the story The Gruffalo. We had lots of fun completing Gruffalo addition problems and making homes for the characters from the story. One of our favourite activities though was making Gruffalo crumble. It was delicious, especially with owl ice-cream!
We have had a fantastic first week in Reception! We had had lots of fun exploring our new classroom and making lots of new friends.
