Welcome to Class 4!
Class 4 is a vibrant and hardworking group of Year 1 children! We’re big on respecting each other and our school, and we aim to be role models for our school’s participation in the Unicef Rights Respecting Schools programme.
In Literacy this term, we’re becoming secure and confident with our phonics skills – the building blocks to becoming fantastic readers and writers! We’re looking at more complex sounds and graphemes (the various ways we write the phonetic sounds we learn). We’re getting in the best shape we can, ready for our phonics assessment at the end of Year 1.
In maths this term, we’re getting confident with place value, partitioning numbers (into ones and tens), learning our number bonds and of course our four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Our overall topic theme for this term is Into the woods. As part of this we’re learning all about the environment and nature of the woods. Our key texts for this term are The Gruffalo and Stick Man by Julia Donaldson.
Our topic of Into the woods is also intertwined into most of our exciting work in R.E., Geography, History, Science and Art.
