Welcome to Class 7!
Class Teacher: Mrs Beattie
Teaching Assistant: Miss Robinson
Since starting my new position as teacher of Class 7, I have been overwhelmed with all of the positivity that is abundantly evident in and around the school community. The children have been an absolute delight and have settled very well into Year 3. As parents, you have been tremendously supportive and my colleagues have welcomed me into the team whole heartedly. All of this has meant I too have settled quickly into the routine of life at Wynyard Primary and do indeed feel like part of the family.
The autumn term began by focusing on the wonderful topic of Rainforests. This involved studying ‘The Great Kapok Tree’ which in essence is about deforestation of the rainforest from an animal’s perspective. This was then used as the catalyst for work on persuasive writing as well as the children writing narrative from an animal’s perspective. In addition to this, we analysed the work of the artist Henri Rousseau, specifically the painting ‘Tiger in a Tropical Storm.’ This was used as the inspiration for the collaborative piece of class artwork which formed our Rainforest display. Having been budding artists the children then adorned their scientific thinking caps and investigated ‘what plants need’ and ‘parts of plants.’
The children have now moved on to study the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons with a focus on the novel ‘How to Train a Dragon’ by Cressida Cowell. This will lead to the children writing their own narrative stories and dragon fact files.
In mathematics the children have been working on mental addition and subtraction, problem solving and reasoning, number and place value as well as multiplication and division. 3D shape has also been explored in addition to measurement and fractions.
Outside of the classroom the children have enjoyed engaging in athletics and invasion games as part of their PE curriculum.
