Welcome to Class 7!
Class Teacher: Mrs Beattie
Teaching Assistant: Miss Robinson
The winds of change have blown through Wynyard Church of England Primary School and the children in Class 7 have settled quickly and should be commended on how well they have dealt with the transition process. The new school has certainly won the hearts of staff and children alike who have all given this amazing building the collective stamp of approval. Our classroom is bright, spacious and cheery. It is certainly conducive to teaching and learning and simply a wonderful place to be!
Our topic this half term is Africa and the children are enjoying comparing this continent to our very own country. We have explored beautiful African sunsets and used these images as inspiration for artwork, painting some of our favourite scenes. Pupils will go onto design and make their very own African masks and will familiarise themselves with some of the marvellous animals that are indigenous to Africa, designing educational and informative leaflets.
In Science sessions, our focus is on rocks, soils and fossils. Children will work as a whole class and in small groups to take part in a variety of investigations, challenges and experiments.
Continuing the African theme, in English pupils will be reading ‘Butterfly Lion’ by the well-known author Michael Morpurgo. In doing so, the children will work on biographies and then create a biography for a fictional character from the novel. In addition to this, the children will work on inference and deduction skills during our reading sessions.
Time will be the focus in maths where clocks will be utilised by the children to develop a sound understanding and confidence in this area. Fractions of amounts are to be introduced and children will continue to work on the four operations and develop their problem solving and reasoning skills.
Dance and games will be the main areas of activity in PE this half term. Pupils will choreograph paired and group routines and develop their teamwork and co-operation skills.
