It is a Church of England school, operated by the Diocese of Durham, with a governing body that includes representatives from the Church, parents and staff, and others who have the skills to contribute to the governance of a successful school. The head teacher leads the school on a day to day basis with support from senior members of staff.
It has been involved in education in the region for over 150 years and there are 48 Church of England Primary Schools in the Diocese. Our record of success is very high, with 98% being graded Good or Outstanding by Ofsted: substantially higher than the national average.

The school is run by a Board of Governors who are accountable to the charitable trust which oversees the school. In addition, the school is accountable to the Department for Education through the terms of its Funding Agreement, as well as Ofsted.
