Year 1 have had a fantastic year so far and we have learned lots of interesting things already. Our class teachers are Mr Llewellyn (Class 3) and Miss Huntley (Class 4) and we are very lucky to have Miss Wade and Miss Van Niekerk helping us with our learning as well. We really enjoy PE lessons with our sports coach, Olly, and Music lessons with one of our music specialists, Mr Ingledew.
In English, we are continuing to take part in ‘Curious Quests’. Each week, we read a new story book. So far, we have read ‘A Book with Bite’ and ‘Dogger’ and we are excited to read ‘Today is Monday’, ‘The Crocodile Who Didn’t Like Water’ and ‘Oi Frog’. Each quest, we try to help our faithful friends escape disaster by learning and using new ‘magic words’ linked to the story book of the week. We also learn and use features of the Year 1 English curriculum to help our faithful friends. We really enjoy taking part in ‘Curious Quests’ and it reflects in our writing.
Year 1 have learned lots in Maths so far this year and they are very confident with their knowledge of place value within 10, 20 and 50. This term, we are going to be learning about multiplication, place value within 100, time and money. We are excited to learn about these new concepts in real-life contexts and apply our knowledge to scenarios.
In Geography, we are exploring ‘The Seaside’. We are excited to learn about our local coastal town Seaton Carew and compare it’s features to where we live. We will practise our fieldwork skills when visiting the location on a school trip.
In Art, we are learning about the life and work of Andy Goldsworthy. We are excited to explore what environmentalism art is and create our own collages and sculptures in quintessential Goldsworthy style.
Year 1 have had an excellent Spring term and are continuing to rise to the challenges they face each day. We are excited about the learning ahead and are ready to prepare for the next step in our educational journey.
