Welcome to Class 5!
Our topic in Class 5 this term is ‘VIPs- Famous people of the past.’ During this topic, children will learn about Florence Nightingale and why she is still remembered today. They will also be learning about famous inventors and their inventions and will have the opportunity to take part in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ type project in which the children will become inventors themselves.
In English, we will be learning about the Arctic and then will move on to traditional tales such as Snow White and the Ugly Duckling. In Maths, we will be exploring shape, including symmetry, and will be looking at money, including paying for items and calculating the amount of change needed. We have our Year 2 SATs tests coming up this term, in the week beginning 20th May. We will be completing assessments in Reading, Maths and Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG.) The children are well prepared and have worked really hard so that they feel confident and able to try their best- well done boys and girls, we are so proud of you!
In Science, we will be learning about different animal groups e.g. mammals, reptiles etc and will be able to sort animals into the relevant group, according to their characteristics. We will also be looking at animal adaptations and how they are well suited to living in their particular habitat.
We have lots of fun things to learn about this term, we can’t wait to get started!
