Welcome to Class 5!
Class teacher: Mrs Barker
Teaching Assistant: Miss Wade
What a fantastic start to Year 2! The children in Class 5 have settled in wonderfully well and we have learned so much already! Our class teacher is Mrs Barker but we also have the pleasure of Miss Wade’s help in some of our lessons. We will also be taught by Mr Llewellyn, he is another Year 2 teacher, for Maths. We have the extra support of tow experts – Olly, our sports coach and Madame Gosney, our French teacher. We have P.E. and French on a Thursday which makes for a very fun afternoon!
In English our topic is Traditional Tales. We have already started reading ‘Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs’ and we are enjoying the examining the evil character of the Queen considerably. We are excited to read ‘Goldilocks and The Three Bears’ and ‘Hansel and Gretel’ later on in the term, which will inspire our writing even more. We are going to aim to improve our spellings through using Spelling Shed in school and at home.
Class 5 are well underway in their learning of place value. We have begun to explore reasoning and problem-solving activities in our lessons to ensure we gain a deeper understanding of the Maths topics we are introduced to. We are excited to learn about addition and subtraction and shape and measure later on in the term, which will be linked to our different subject areas, in order to apply our learned mathematical skills to real-life situations.
We are going to aim to improve our already amazing knowledge of the 2, 5 and 10 times tables in a fun and engaging way through using Times Table Rock Stars in school and at home. Class 5 love the competitiveness of practicing their times tables in this way, which is helping them to build fluency in their multiplication – a remarkable and important skill to have!
We are very excited to start learning about homes of the past in History! We are going to explore how people lived over one hundred years ago and live like a Victorian for a day – We hope the school days are as boring as we imagine or that the food is as revolting as we’ve heard.
We have a very busy term ahead but we have all risen to the challenge of Year 2 so far and we are very excited for the year ahead!
