Class 7- Year 3

Welcome to Class 7!

Class teacher: Mrs Coates

Teaching Assistant: Miss Robinson

Class 7 have returned to school after Christmas brilliantly! They have settled back into routines beautifully and are really showing mature Key Stage 2 attitudes to all aspects of their learning.

This term our topic will be ‘The Romans’ and we will be reading ‘The Boy Who Grew Dragons’ by Andy Shepherd.

In English, the focus of all our writing will be dragons. We have some really engaging writing tasks prepared for the children: instructions on how to capture a dragon; adventure stories; non-chronological reports about our own dragon species; setting descriptions based on a dragon’s lair and newspaper reports about dragon sightings! We are also going to be working hard to improve our written comprehension by answering a variety of question types.

This term in maths, we are going to deepen our understanding of fractions as well as applying our place value knowledge to problems involving money. Additionally, we will be improving our accuracy when telling the time. We will be developing our knowledge of measuring length and applying this in a variety of reasoning and problem-solving questions. As part of our learning on statistics, Year 3 will be working on interpreting and representing data using pictograms.

Our science lessons will be all about rocks and light this term. Children will have the opportunity to explore a range of different rocks and then conduct investigations on their properties. They will also be learning about how light moves and how shadows are made.

This half term, we will be finishing our swimming lessons before moving on to doing gymnastics with Miss Craggs on a Tuesday. Luke, Megan and Olly will continue to teach Year 3 PE lessons and will be focussing on tennis skills.

Year 3’s weekly RE sessions will focus on The Trinity and Easter. Children will also take part in daily worship sessions through assemblies and class-based activities.

Mrs Bradley will continue to teach ukulele lessons to Year 3 each Thursday.

We will be extending our French learning using reading, writing, speaking and listening tasks all about ice creams and Ancient Britain.

Our class homework will be sent out each Friday on eSchools.
