Class 9- Year 4

Welcome to Class 9!

Class teacher: Miss Highfield

Teaching Assistant: Mrs McRitchie

We have had an exceptional start to our final term in Year 4. Our first summer term topic is ‘Crime and Punishment Through Time’. We will begin the topic by exploring Roman methods of crime and punishment and journey through the ages to Modern day. We will investigate similarities and differences in the methods of crime and punishment and explore change, continuity, cause and consequence.

After the May half term holiday, we will dive into the topic of ‘Natural Disasters’. We will explore how extreme weather conditions such as storms and drought impact river processes and landscapes.

Our writing in English will be based on books related to our topic. For example, ‘Sherlock Holmes The Blue Carbuncle’ retold for children by Mark Williams, ‘FLOOD’ the beautiful picture book by Alvaro F. Villa and Escape from Pompeii by Christina Balit. We will be writing diary entries, newspaper articles, narratives and many more! We are also going to be working hard to improve our reading fluency and comprehension skills.

This term in maths, we will be working on building our times table fluency and speed in preparation for our Multiplication Tables Check.  We will be analysing data and working with money, time, shapes and angles.

In Science, we will be learning about sound and electricity and we have already completed a science investigation which focused on how sound travels in waves. In RE, we will be looking at what happened when ‘Jesus left’. We will also be studying how other believers show commitment in different religions. Our art topic will involve painting with water colours and we will be working towards producing our own volcanic painting. DT will involve growing fruit, designing and creating packaging for our very own pizzas which we will be making at Pizza Express.

We are continuing with our guitar lessons on a Thursday morning and have PE twice a week.

We are counting down the days until we go on our very first school residential to Robinwood.

That is all for now, but we will keep you updated with all our adventures and successes.

Thank you for reading our website page.
