Welcome to Class 9!
Class Teacher: Mr Waller
Teaching Assistant: Mrs O’Connell
Children in Class 9 are in Year 5 and are taught by Mr Waller. Mrs O’Connell also helps us in our lessons.
This term we are exploring London and have enjoyed taking part in an extended project based on the “Mary Poppins” stories by P.L. Travers. We worked hard to look at the different characters in the books, wrote letters to Mary Poppins, created our own magical adventures and wrote instructions on how to fly kites. We then made our own kites during our “Let’s go fly a kite day” and had great success flying our kite creations to the highest high and sending them soaring! We also enjoyed learning about the life of P.L. Travers through biography work linked to the film “Saving Mr Banks.”
In history, we have been exploring the Victorian and Edwardian era. We have looked at a range of areas of life in the past including schooling, jobs, towns and the suffrage movement. We also learnt about the workhouse through the story of Oliver and even tasted gruel – not all of the children enjoyed it! We also looked at the local heritage of mining in the North East of England.
In Science, we have been exploring “Keeping Healthy” and looked at different ways we can keep our teeth and digestive system healthy as we grow older. We even designed an experiment to help us test which drinks were best for our teeth.
In RE, we have been looking at the life of Daniel in the Old Testament and what this book of the Bible teaches us about faith as we walk though life. We are also exploring the Jewish faith.
