Computing

Computing

Through our computing curriculum at Wynyard Church of England Primary School we intend to give our pupils the life-skills that will enable them to embrace and utilise new technology in a socially responsible and safe way. Our aim is to give our pupils the knowledge and skills which will enable them to excel in the 21st century workplace and we want them to be aware of opportunities that will be open to them if they study computing. We want children to become confident, independent users of technology. We intend that technology is used to support learning across the curriculum and to ensure that our curriculum is accessible to every child. Through our computing lessons, we encourage pupils to develop creativity, resilience and problem-solving skills.

Our Computing Curriculum

We aim to ensure that all pupils:

•             demonstrate enjoyment and interest in computing

•             develop an appreciation of technology’s contribution to everyday life

•             are confident using coding in a variety of contexts

•             can effectively communicate using a variety of hardware and software

•             know the career opportunities linked to computing

•             use technology safely and respectfully

At Wynyard Church of England Primary School, computing is taught both as a discreet subject and, where appropriate, links are made between computing and class topics for cross curricular learning. In computing lessons, children use BeeBots, interactive whiteboards, iPads, Kindles and Micro:bits and access a range of software. Online safety is taught throughout the year as part of computing and PSHE lessons as well as during ‘Safer Internet Day’; however, staff also use everyday learning opportunities to reinforce online safety messages. Evidence of pupil work is recorded in topic books and using the Seesaw app.

We provide all children regardless of ethnic origin, gender, aptitude or disability with a broad and balanced computing curriculum.
