Class 2- Reception

Welcome to Class 2!

Class teacher: Mrs Hunter and Mrs Fawcett

Teaching Assistants: Mrs Brewster, Miss Barnfield & Miss Whitton

‘The Great Outdoors’ and ‘Ready, Steady, Grow’ are our topics this term. We are excited to explore the life cycle of plants and minibeasts. We will be planting seeds and observing how they grow and change and talk about what they need to survive. In the Creative Area, we will experiment with colour mixing and make observational drawings of plants and flowers.

Through non-fiction books, we will find facts about different minibeasts, such as how they move, feed and grow. In the Outdoor Area, we will be hunting for bugs and talk about the different minibeasts we find, their habitats and why they are suited to the minibeasts that live there. We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our caterpillars and will observe the different stages of the life cycle of a butterfly. Then we will release the butterflies and discuss how to care for living things.

We love drawing and writing during our ‘Drawing Club’ sessions and are continuing to develop our writing, becoming more independent and applying new sounds we have been learning during our RWI sessions. Alongside our ‘Drawing Club,’ we’ll be exploring other writing opportunities in the classroom areas. Linked to our topic, we will label parts of the flower, write about life cycles, write facts about minibeasts and write for different purposes through play.

As it is our final term in Reception, we will be discussing the transition into Year 1 during Summer 2 and talk about our emotions, things that will remain the same, and things that will change.
