Welcome to Year 1!
The adventure has already started in Year 1 and the children have been so excited to explore their new classroom and dive into lots of new learning adventures!
Our class teacher is Mrs Hall, supported by our fantastic teaching assistant Miss Marsh, and we are also lucky that Mrs Barker, Class 3’s teacher, sometimes joins us to help too. Each week we enjoy a wide range of learning experiences. On Thursdays, we have PE with our brilliant sports coaches Luke and Megan. Every other Wednesday, our music specialist, Mr I, visits us to share his passion for music. Once a week we will also visit our school library where we will have the privilege of selecting a book to bring home and share with our loved ones.
We are so excited to begin our Year 1 journey together! This half term, we are diving into our exciting topic ‘All About Us’, where we will explore what makes each of us unique and investigate the fascinating ‘History of Me’. We have already started our journey by excitedly looking through photographs of ourselves as babies and toddlers, spotting all the ways we have changed and grown! Our unique, connected curriculum will bring together History, Science, Geography and Art as we investigate how humans and animals change over time, explore our families and communities, and discover what makes us special. Through practical activities, creative challenges and plenty of opportunities to ask questions, investigate and share ideas, we will bring our learning to life. We are already looking forward to showcasing our wonderful learning at the end of the half term!
In English, we are continuing our exciting Drawing Club journey, using wonderful stories to develop our vocabulary, imagination and love of writing. We have loved beginning with The Magic Porridge Pot! and will continue to explore stories in creative and imaginative ways. We will also be developing our confidence in using basic punctuation, building our skills and becoming enthusiastic young writers.
In Maths, we have begun investigating number and place value, taking our first steps towards understanding how numbers work and how they can be represented in different ways. We will also use My Maths for homework activities, helping us to practise and consolidate the learning we have enjoyed in school.
Our wider curriculum is packed with opportunities to explore, create, investigate and discover. Throughout the year, our learning will be enriched through continuous provision, allowing us to use play to apply our new knowledge and skills, solve problems, follow our interests and develop our independence.
In PSHE, we are exploring the importance of making and maintaining friendships. Through fun, practical activities, the children will explore how we can listen to one another, share, take turns and work cooperatively as a team. We will also talk about what happens when friendships can be tricky, thinking about how we can resolve disagreements, use kind words and find ways to make things right. The children will also learn about the importance of permission, including when and why we should ask for permission and respect other people’s choices.
We are looking forward to a fantastic year full of learning, laughter, creativity, discovery and fun! We can’t wait to see Class 4 grow, learn and flourish throughout their Year 1 adventure.
