Class 1- Reception

Welcome to Class 1!

Class teacher: Miss Jewson

Teaching Assistants: Mrs Brewster, Miss Barnfield & Miss Whitton

‘The Great Outdoors’ and ‘Ready, Steady, Grow’ are our topics this term. We will explore the life cycle of plants and minibeasts. We will plant seeds and observe how they grow and change. We will talk about what they need to survive. We will experiment with colour mixing and make observational drawings of plants and flowers.

We will use non-fiction books to find facts about different minibeasts, such as how they move, feed and grow. We will go on a bug hunt and talk about the different minibeasts we find. We’ll talk about similarities and differences between the different habitats and why they are suited to the minibeasts that live there. We will have some caterpillars in class and will observe the different stages of the life cycle of a butterfly. We will release the butterflies and discuss how to care for living things.

We really enjoy drawing and writing during our ‘Drawing Club’ sessions. We are continuing to develop our writing, becoming more independent and applying new sounds we have been learning during our RWI sessions. Alongside our ‘Drawing Club,’ we like to explore other writing opportunities in the classroom areas. Linked to our topic, we will label parts of the flower, write about life cycles, write facts about minibeasts and write for different purposes through play.

We will discuss the transition into Year 1 during Summer 2. We will talk about our emotions, things that will remain the same, and things that will change. In preparation, will visit our new class and spend time with our new teacher.
