Class 3- Year 1

Welcome to Class 3!

Class teacher: Mr Llewellyn

Teaching Assistants: Miss Wyatt & Miss Van Niekerk

We had an exceptional first term in Year 1 and we are so excited to learn even more interesting things. Our class teachers are Mr Llewellyn (Class 3) and Miss Huntley (Class 4) and we are very lucky to have Miss Wyatt, Miss Van Niekerk, Miss Lightowler and Miss Craggs helping us with our learning as well. We are also excited to take part in PE lessons with our sports coaches, Olly and Miss Craggs on Monday afternoons, and Music lessons with one of our music specialists, Mr Ingledew on Tuesday afternoons.

In Curious Quests, we have read ‘Five Minutes Peace’ and learned how to use full stops properly when drawing and describing Mrs Large. We are excited to read ‘The Stinky Cheese Man’, ‘Alan’s Big Scary Teeth’ and ‘Princes Smartypants’. When reading these stories, we will learn even more adventurous vocabulary, as well as different SPAG features to help our faithful friends on their quests and make our writing even better.

Year 1 have learned lots in Maths so far this year and are very confident in their knowledge of place value within 10 and 20. This term, we are learning about place value within 50. We are going to practise counting from 20 to 50 and explore how to partition numbers within 50 in different ways. We are also excited to use our maths resources to explore length, height, volume, and mass.

In History, we are diving into ‘The Great Fire of London’. We are excited to learn about how Londoners lived in Tudor times and use historical sources to find out how the fire started, spread, and stopped. We will use the diary of Samuel Peppys to help us do this.

In Art, we are learning the art of Chinese Block Printing. We have practised printing with our hands and vegetables and are excited to carve a Chinese symbol into a potato to create an authentic Chinese block print.

In PSHE, we are going to be talking about how to keep ourselves healthy and how to use money responsibly in the modern world.

Year 1 have had an excellent Autumn term and have risen to the challenge. We are very excited about the learning ahead and are ready to get stuck in.
