We have a commitment to outdoor learning here at Wynyard. Every child, from Nursery to Year 6, accesses regular forest school sessions throughout the year within curriculum time. Our provider – Scout-Ed – have many years of experience promoting outdoor learning and it has proved to be one of our most popular activities with the children! During these sessions, the children develop teamwork and knowledge of the outdoors. Activities include: designing and making mini and large shelters and testing their suitability; woodland art and design including leaf mandalas and leaf mobiles; mini-beast hunt and using classification keys; fire-making with flint and steel; and of course, marshmallow toasting around a campfire!
We also run an after-school forest schools club all year, offered to different year groups each half term. The uptake for this club is always excellent and the children really look forward to their forest school adventures!
