Class 6- Year 2

Welcome to Class 6!

Class teacher: Miss Davies

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Lofts and Miss Van Niekerk

Our journey into Year 2 is well underway and we are eager to get stuck in this summer term! We are looking forward to exploring the many interesting topics we have on offer this term and are intrigued to see what opportunities lie ahead.

Our class teacher is Miss Davies, but we also have the pleasure of working with Mrs Lofts, Miss Van Neikerk and Mrs Barker. We have expert support in our PE lessons from Olly, Megan and Luke.

In English, our topic is ‘The Wonderful World of Roald Dahl’. We have started reading ‘The Twits’ and we have loved being introduced to Mr and Mrs Twit and discovering all the gruesome, conniving tricks they play on each other.

We are excited to read ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ and ‘The Witches’ and use our imagination and creativity to write our own Dahl inspired texts. We are always developing our knowledge of the Year 2 spelling rules through the use of Spelling Shed in school and at home.

Class 6 have come back after Easter ready to build on their maths knowledge from the previous terms. We are moving on to explore measurement, fractions, time, statistics and position and direction. We will deepen our understanding of these topics through reasoning and problem-solving activities. To understand when we can use our mathematical skills and knowledge in different contexts, we will seek to make links across the curriculum.

We are going to aim to improve our already amazing knowledge of the 2-, 5-, 10- and 3-times tables in a fun and engaging way through using Times Table Rock Stars in school and at home. Class 6 love the competitive element of Times Table Rock Stars which is helping to build our fluency – an important skill to have throughout the maths curriculum and beyond!

In geography, we will be journeying around the world in the topic ‘Our world’. We will be developing our mapping and field skills, using simple compass directions, Google Earth and Atlases to compare the physical and human features of the 7 continents.

In history, we will be using primary and secondary artefacts to identify the meaning of democracy and its importance today. We will be exploring the classsystems used on The Titanic and looking closely at the living arrangements on board.

We can’t wait to get stuck into our new topics this term and share our newfound knowledge and celebrate our achievements!
