Welcome to Class 6!
Class teacher: Mr Llewellyn
Teaching Assistants: Miss Wade, Miss Jones & Miss Jackson
The children in Class 6 have made an absolutely fabulous start to Year 2 and we have learned so much already! Our class teacher is Mr Llewellyn and we are very lucky to have Miss Jones, Miss Wade and Miss Jackson helping us with our learning sometimes as well. We will also be taught by Mrs Uttley, the other Year 2 teacher, for English and Maths. We have also begun swimming lessons on a Tuesday afternoon and ukulele lessons on a Thursday.
In English, our topic is ‘The Wonderful World of Roald Dahl’. We have already started reading ‘The Twits’ and we are enjoying the examining the revolting characters of Mr and Mrs Twit considerably. We are excited to read ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ and ‘The Witches’ later on in the term, which will inspire our writing even more. We are going to aim to improve our spellings through using ‘Spelling Shed’ in school and at home.
Class 6 are well underway in their learning of place value. We have been undertaking lots of reasoning and problem-solving activities in our lessons to ensure we gain a deeper understanding of the topic at hand. We are excited to learn about addition and subtraction and shape and measure later on in the term, which will be linked to our different subject areas, in order to apply our learned mathematical skills to real-life situations.
We are going to aim to improve our already amazing knowledge of the 2, 5, 10 and 3 times tables in a fun and engaging way through using ‘Times Table Rock Stars’ in school and at home. Class 6 have absolutely loved practicing their times tables in this way, which is helping them to build fluency in their multiplication – a remarkable and important skill to have!
We are very excited to start learning about the Titanic Disaster in History! We are going to explore what the remarkable ship looked like, who was on board and what caused it to sink. We have also become researchers in Science and have investigated what materials hold waterproof properties through trying to help Syd from ‘Grandad’s Island’ rebuild his ship to get home.
We have a very busy term ahead but we have all risen to the challenge of Year 2 and we are very excited for the year ahead!
