Welcome to Class 6!
Class teacher: Mr Llewellyn
Teaching Assistants: Miss Wade, Miss Jones & Miss Jackson
The children in Class 6 had a fabulous term last year and are more than ready for the exciting times and challenges ahead. Our class teacher is Mr Llewellyn and we are very lucky to have Miss Jones, Miss Wade and Miss Jackson helping us with our learning as well. We will also be taught by Mrs Uttley, the other Year 2 teacher, for English and Maths. We are really enjoying our swimming lessons on a Tuesday afternoon and ukulele lessons on a Thursday.
In English, our topic is ‘The Wonderful World of Roald Dahl’. We have already read ‘The Twits’ and ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ and we are enjoying examining the wicked characters of the witches in ‘The Witches’. We have learned how to write for many different purposes and we are looking forward to finding out which author is going to inspire out writing next. We are continuing to improve our spelling through using ‘Spelling Shed’ in school and at home.
Class 6 are well underway in their learning of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We have been undertaking lots of reasoning and problem-solving activities in our lessons to ensure we gain a deeper understanding of the topic at hand. We really enjoy working practically and challenge ourselves constantly during lesson time in order to get the best possible outcomes for ourselves.
We are well underway with building fluency in multiplication. We really enjoying using ‘Times Table Rock Stars’ in school and at home, as a fun and engaging way to improve our knowledge of the 2, 5, 10 and 3 times tables. We also regularly play multiplication games before maths lessons.
We absolutely loved learning about the Titanic Disaster in history last term and are very excited to start learning about Africa in geography! We are going to explore the continent and its people, landscape and cultures. We have also become great researchers in Science and have investigated which materials are best suited to build a bridge through conducting an investigation. We are now learning about animals including humans and are exploring the different life stages.
We had a very busy term last year but we have all risen to the challenge of Year 2 and we are more than excited for the year ahead and to welcome even more members to this growing classroom community.
